Labor Day Festivities in Chantilly, VA

Aug 30, 2019 | Chantilly

With a long weekend on the horizon, the possibilities seem endless! Take the last few days of summer to indulge in some family-friendly fun before the weather gets too cold. Below are some of our favorite Labor Day events and activities in Chantilly. If you live near our Chantilly orthodontist in Fairfax County, consider checking them out!

Northern Virginia Farmers Market

Labor Day is the first Monday of September and it usually also marks the beginning of autumn. That means farmers will be getting selling amazing, fresh harvest fruits and vegetables at Northern Virginia Farmers Markets throughout the state, so stock up on organic, locally grown produce and handmade products at the Chantilly Farmers Market while you can! The market at St. Veronica Catholic Church, 3460 on Centreville Road Chantilly, VA 20151 is available on Thursdays from 3:30 to 7 PM. If you go shopping then, you’ll have plenty of ingredients for a Labor Day feast by the weekend.

When you’re perusing the aisles of fresh produce, keep in mind that certain raw fruits and vegetables can be too crunchy for your braces. Celery, carrots, corn, etc. are really crunchy and need to be cooked before you can eat them if you have braces! To learn more about braces-friendly foods, check out our blog on how to adjust to life with braces.

Labor Day Carshow

On September 2nd, 2019 in Historic Fairfax, The City of Fairfax and Clifton Lions Club will be hosting the city’s annual carwash to raise money for charities, like Life with Cancer and Northern Virginia Therapeutic Riding Program. Attendees will have the opportunity to see and experience all types of motor vehicles, including foreign cars, customs, muscles, trucks, antiques, motorcycles and more.

Not to worry, there will also be lots of street food, booth vendors, raffles, games, and DJ music, so even those who aren’t car enthusiasts will have fun! The show is free of charge, but donations are encouraged!

Kids Night at Stem & Flower

No, kids don’t work, so Labor Day isn’t exactly a holiday for them. But they do appreciate a nice three-day weekend from school! Take your kids to Stem & Flower on August, 31st for a night of creativity and learning. The event is $20 and it lasts from 5 PM to 9 PM. Your kids will have the opportunity to socialize with friends, paint, make arts and crafts, do science projects, and most importantly, eat dinner. Stem & Flower is located at 14740 Flint Lee Road, Ste. A, Chantilly, VA 20151.

Fall Sugarloaf Crafts

Get in touch with your creative side and stop by the Fall Sugarloaf Crafts festival this weekend. This exciting event features independent artisans, collectors, and enthusiasts in the arts & crafts community. It’s the perfect place to get high quality contemporary jewelry, pottery, art, decor, and more. There will also be speakers, live demonstrations, workshops, food, drinks, and live music.

Waterstock at Tim’s Rivershore

Waterstock is a four-day celebration that takes place August 30 – September 2. Located at Tim’s Rivershore Restaurant and Crab House, it’s only an hour drive from Chantilly. Book a weekend getaway by the river and take part in the fun activities at Waterstock! There will be delicious food, drinks, and live entertainment. If you love music, seafood, and a good time, this is the place to be!

For patients who have braces, make sure to peel your seafood before you eat it! Shellfish is very popular at Tim’s Rivershore, but the shells of crawfish, crab, lobster, shrimp, etc. are hard. When eaten, they can damage the brackets.

We’d love to hear what you’re doing for Labor Day! Luckily, our office will be closed on Monday as well, so our orthodontist won’t be caught in her white doctor’s coat! Let us know what fun things you were able to do over the long weekend the next time you come in for a dental exam. If you have questions about any orthodontic restrictions for the holiday, send us a message or give us a call at (703) 542-6336! We’d be happy to help.
